Switzerland is world renown for its hang gliding, paragliding and base-jumping at the foot of its skyward-reaching alps. You can go kayaking, canoeing and sailing on their deep mountain lakes or stop for a bit of some delicious home-made chocolate with milk from their local cows! Whether it be hosting the Olympics or sponsoring world-class cycling, Switzerland holds a plethora of events. The Skiing is arguably the best in Europe, restaurants are among the finest in the world, talented artisans perform daily, there is enough high-quality shopping to deplete most anyone's bank account, and the beauty of the country's landscape, water and natural resources are exceedingly well-maintained.
Climate |
The climate throughout Switzerland is surprisingly moderate, void of excessive heat, cold or humidity. The summer months generally see temperatures ranging from 18 to 28 °C while the winter temperatures naturally drop to average between -2 to 7 °C. Spring and autumn are cool and sometimes rainy under 8 to 15 °C temperatures. Weather conditions are subject to change with elevation and it is not surprising to enter the San Gottardo tunnel (which is 16.9 Kilometers in length) in a heavy snow storm and come out the other end to clear skies and sunshine.
Culture |
Matterhorn Mountain
Switzerland is comprised of four national languages being German (63%), French (23%), Italian (8%) and Romansh (6%). English is also widely spoken, particularly for business and in touristic areas, but English (along with Romansh) is not an official language. Along with the Vatican, the Swiss flag is one of only two flags worldwide which is square and not rectangular in nature. Switzerland has no national bird and no national flower, opting rather to value all wildlife equally. The country represents a diverse array of cultures which are held together, in-part, by a singular and fervent belief in autonomy. The Swiss hold closely their traditions and are free to express them publicly through a variety of local cantonal holidays and festivals.
Economy and |
Switzerland is comprised of 26 cantons which have each yielded a small amount of their sovereignty to the Swiss Confederation Helvetica (CH) for the purposes of protecting their national borders. The Swiss economic centers are divided into three principle sectors being landwirtschaft (agriculture), industrie (industry) and dienstleistungen (services). The agricultural sector constitutes only 10% of the economy in Switzerland and is heavily supported and regulated by the government. The Swiss Federation wishes to keep the importance of food production at the forefront of its attention because the country has no mineral resources of which to speak and although their local farmers produce outstanding meat, dairy and vegetable products, Switzerland must rely on importing food stuffs from other nations to meet the demand of its population. Roughly 40% of the population is employed in industry (watches, metals, fabrications, machines and textiles, etc) and export their products throughout Europe and the world. Over 50% of the Swiss population works in the services industry (banking, assurances, financing, insurances and tourism, etc). Asset Protection Services International offers Swiss Residency to Citizenship as well as Branch Offices, Corporations, Limited Liability Companies and Limited Partnerships in the jurisdiction of Switzerland.

National Map
Switzerland is land-locked in Europe and surrounding by five nations including Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Liechtenstein. Nearly two-thirds of Switzerland is covered in mountains, glaciers, forests, lakes and rivers. Switzerland has over 100 peaks in the Alps exceeding 4,000 meters in altitude and its glaciers cover more than 3,000 Km2 of terrain. The Swiss vacillate annually in being ranked with the #1 or #2 best highways, railways, tunnels and infrastructure in the world. They also specialize in cable cars which pull people straight up the sides of mountain and steep city hills with remarkable precision and safety. Switzerland has a border which runs 1,858 Km in length and maintains the largest standing army in Europe per its population.

Coat of Arms
The lands that are now Switzerland are shown to have had people dwelling on it since as far back as 3800 BC. Celtic tribes are generally recognized as the first inhabitants settling in the area around 1500 BC with the Raetians living in the east and the Helvetii or "Helvetians" living in the west. It is from the Helvetti that Switzerland later derived the name "Confederation Helvetica" or "CH" for short. However, it wasn't until 1291 that the cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden united and created the (old) Swiss Confederacy. Over the centuries, the Swiss fiercely defended their land and increasingly gained autonomy from the Holy Roman Empire. In 1353 the cantons of Glarus and Zug, as well as the city-states of Bern, Lucerne and Zurich joined the Confederation. The Swiss had gained some notoriety for their mercenaries and, in 1499, defeated the Swabian League. This act granted the Old Swiss Confederacy exemption from various Roman reforms and immunity from their courts. In fact, shortly after this victory, in 1506 Pope Julius II commissioned the Swiss Guard to serve the papacy, who continue to do so to the present day.
It was at the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648 were Switzerland gained their legal and lawful independence from Rome, and later it was the Congress of Vienna which recognized Switzerland as a sovereign and neutral nation within Europe in 1814. Switzerland experienced a very brief, and relatively minor, civil war which lasted less than a month. It was out of this short internal conflict that the Swiss adopted their Federal Constitution in 1848 and later amended it 1874. Switzerland remained neutral during World War I and World War II. At one point, Germany drafted plans to invade Switzerland but later reconsidered and withdrew the idea due to the intense preparation, mobilization and fortification of the Swiss military. In addition to avoiding destruction to their infrastructure and loss of citizenry, Switzerland attracted substantial amounts of gold, silver and cash during both world wars as surrounding countries used Swiss Banks as a safe haven for holding and transferring business assets. To this day, Switzerland remains the world's preeminent financial center with an independent currency and laws from that of the E.U.
